Healthier Singapore (HSG): Enhancing Healthcare Accessibility

Many of you may have recently received an SMS or letter encouraging you to sign up with your nearby clinic under Healthier SG (HSG). Read on to understand more about what HSG means for you.

What is Healthier SG?

Healthier SG is an initiative by the Singaporean government aimed at enhancing healthcare accessibility and affordability for its citizens. It encompasses various programs and subsidies to make healthcare more affordable, improve the quality of healthcare services, and promote a healthier lifestyle among Singaporeans. By achieving these goals, the government aims to enhance the overall health and well-being of the population.

Who is Eligible for Subsidies?

The Healthier SG scheme is aimed at Singapore citizens and permanent residents (PR). Eligibility is based on the following criteria:

  • Age: Currently sign-up for HSG is aimed at Singaporeans and PRs above 40 years of age.
  • Chronic Conditions: You do not need to have any pre-existing chronic conditions to sign up for HSG, but enhanced subsidies are targeted at individuals with specific chronic conditions, such as diabetes, hypertension, asthma, heart and kidney disease and so on.

What are the Subsidies?

Subsidies under Healthier SG cover a wide range of healthcare services, including doctor consultations, lab and clinical investigations and medications. The amount of subsidy provided depends on the specific service and the individual’s income level.

The Healthier SG scheme offers a range of subsidies and benefits to help Singaporeans manage their healthcare costs. Some of the key subsidies include:

  • Screen for Life: Subsidies for recommended health screenings such as blood tests for cholesterol and diabetes, mammograms, Pap smears, and colorectal cancer screenings.
  • Chronic Disease Management Programme (CDMP): Subsidies for the management of chronic conditions such as diabetes, hypertension, and lipid disorders.
  • Medisave for Chronic Disease Management Programme (CDMP): Allows the use of Medisave for outpatient treatment of chronic conditions under the Medisave 500/700 Scheme. CDMP patients can use up to $500 – $700 per year to reduce out-of-pocket cash payments for chronic disease bills.
  • Medisave for Vaccinations: Allows the use of Medisave for selected vaccinations under the National Adult Immunisation Schedule (NAIS).
  • Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS): Provides subsidies for medical and dental care at participating general practitioners (GPs) and dental clinics. All Singaporeans are eligible to apply. Merdeka and Pioneer Generation Cardholders are eligible for subsidies up to $520-$540 per year to offset their chronic medical bills under the CHAS scheme.
