Plantar Fasciitis is a very common condition causing pain in the heel of your foot. It is caused by inflammation of the plantar fascia, which is a ligament connecting the base of your toes to the heel of your foot. The plantar fascia is one of the components supporting the arch of our feet.'
General remedies for Plantar Fasciitis
1) Wearing appropriate footwear for activities.
An insole to support the arch can help to alleviate the discomfort. Wearing well fitted and comfortable shoes are important too.
2) Stretch your calf muscles
Regularly do the Exercises taught to you by your doctor to relieve tightness in your calf muscles and achilles tendon to relieve pressure on your plantar fasciia. Sample Exercises can be found here.
3) Massage the plantar fascia
Regular massage with or without a painkiller gel from the plantar fascia up to the base of your toes help to stretch the plantar fascia and reduce discomfort over time. We generally advise a daily massage before bedtime.
4) Watch your weight
In general, patients who are overweight put more stress on the plantar fascia and therefore, more often suffer from, or take a longer time to recover from Plantar Fasciitis. By gradually reducing your weight, you can accelerate your recovery, and also reduce the recurrence of your condition.
